A brand new family friendly event for our community held by the Lyons Better Hometown Program. Two barbeque contests are planned, professional and amateur. Dailey and Vincent are the featured bluegrass band playing Saturday night Oct. 9th at the Blue Marquee Theater. Local bluegrass and gospel bands will be playing in Partin Park where our professional teams will be located.

The Altamaha heritage Center, a nonprofit organization of individuals and businesses dedicated to promoting the historical and cultural heritage of the greater Altamaha River basin, plans to again offer history buffs in the area a guided driving tour of the old river road.

This year's event will start at Town's Bluff Park and Heritage Center on the banks of the river in Jeff Davis County. It will follow the river road from English Eddy community, where last year's tour ended, to Bell's Ferry where the original river road split. From Bell's Ferry the 2010 tour will move along the Oconee frontier past the Dead River area and then to the old Long Pond community in Montgomery County. Along the way, patrons will be guided and welcomed to a number of historical sites. Towns Bluff will be the site of a number of activities during the tour day, including an encampment by the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Tickets for the tour are $20 and barbecue is $8. Proceeds from the tour and lunch are used by the Altamaha Heritage Center and the friends of Towns Bluff for their heritage projects. For additional information, contact Fred Brogdon at (912) 526-6061.
