Veterinarians strongly recommend that all pets have their annual shots.

Recreation:
Recreation and opportunities for all ages abound in the Toombs-Montgomery area. From softball tournaments to soccer games and fishing to cycling, when it comes to recreation, this area hits a home run.
Vidalia Recreation Department (VRD) has more than 40 acres of community parks, ball fields, playgrounds and pavilions. They offer diversified programs for all ages including athletic leagues, day camps and swimming programs at Toombs County's only public pool. The Ed Smith Complex in Vidalia offers covered pavilions, a lighted walking trail, batting cages, lighted fields, basketball and tennis courts and concessions. VRD oversees several playgrounds and pavilions located throughout the
city. In addition to the playground at Ed Smith Complex, there is the Bay Street Recreation Area with city pool, Godbee Park on Church Street, Gaynelle Park on sixth Street, H.W. Miller Park on Epstein Street, Flossy Hayes Pavilion on Roosevelt Street and Matthews Park on Third Street. With the assistance of the Vidalia City School Board, VRD also has possession of a former school gymnasium, which is used for indoor recreational sports. The Darby Gym is located on Adams Street. Lyons Recreation Department (LRD), with headquarters at Partin Park in Lyons, is host of the largest youth baseball/softball tournament in the state with ten divisions and some 115 teams annually. Organized activities for the youth include Tee ball, baseball, softball, soccer, basketball, football and cheerleading. The park includes a putt-putt course, a lighted half-mile walking trail, four playgrounds and one covered playground, volleyball court, nine outdoor pavilions and a BMX bike
trail. LRD also has a city gym, which is an auditorium building seating 1,500 and is used for basketball, karate, dance, scouts and other events. At Partin Park, LRD has the Callaway Center, the NeSmith Birthday House and Durden Cabin available for special events such as family and class reunions. Reservations are required to use facilities. Montgomery County Fountain Park in Mt. Vernon features three lighted baseball/softball fields, lighted tennis court, lighted walking track and children's playground. Sports events for children 3-14 are the primary focus. Football, baseball, basketball, softball, cheerleading, wrestling and twirling are offered. For the mature audience, the Senior Citizens Center offers a place for gathering and good times. Activities include Bingo, knitting, painting, etc. For more information, contact

For research, reading and other cultural activities, access the service of the Ohoopee Regional Library System: Vidalia-Toombs County Library in Vidalia, Montgomery County Public Library in Mount Vernon and Nelle Brown Memorial Library in Lyons.
